A visit to Sligo, the home of the Barton Smiths

Our visit to Sligo was complete with a meal with cousin Ted Barton Smith and his wife. David and Nina, our hosts from Dublin were our chauffersmand enjoyed meeting some of the Smith rels. David knew many Sligo locals, having taught them at the school in which he teaches science.

Dear Kevin and Val

Great to read your blog. I do hope that you've been getting our comments. There is basically no way that we can tell. Mike and I have just spent the weekend down in Tasmania, going primarily for Stephen Baxter's 50th birthday party. It was a party with a difference - it was a worship time, thanking Father for His action in the world, for Stephen's life, and to celebrate some of the songs with He gave to Stephen to share with us. Joseph played the drums, Hilary the flute, Alice the keyboard, Marion sang with Stephen. The kids really honoured him and it was rather lovely. Then we all had supper together - at Longford (near Launceston) Baptist Church building. More of that when you come home.

We stayed with friends (Lena & Ian Carmichael)in Penguin, up on the north coast. I went to bible college with her; we hadn't seen them for about 15 years when they moved from Footscray to Tasmania. It was a pretty special time for us, relaxing and being refreshed - certainly my hope for Mike, and it happened!!! Ian used to be one of the Anglican clergy here but left the church heirarchy and they are now a part of the small gathering of believers in Penguin. We met a lady whose believing sister lives in Lancefield. More on that later too. Rachael picked us up at the airport and we had tea together with Sarah-Jane and Justin at BC's. Laura cooked for us of course!

Rebecca and Ben have arrived in Hervey Bay and are a bit happier with the weather there. Hannah did manage to get her L permit this morning, so she's pretty chuffed by that.

We look forward to seeing you when you get back. We miss you both.

Love from the Chapmans

Hey!
We just realised how much your children look like the gentlemen situated behind Kevin. We presume he's a Barton Smith.
